DELHI — A local rally opposing policies of the Trump administration will be held Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to noon on Courthouse Square in Delhi, as part of the nationwide 50501 movement. The event, known as the Hands Off Rally, marks its third iteration and is organized by the Delaware County Democratic Committee and Western Catskills Indivisible.

The gathering is part of a coordinated series of protests across the country aimed at drawing attention to the real-world effects of federal policies on rural and small-town communities. Organizers say the rally will provide a space for Delaware County residents to hear from local voices on issues including health care access, immigration, labor rights, and LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Among the scheduled speakers are Diana Mason, Ph.D., R.N., health policy expert and host of “HealthCetera in the Catskills” on WIOX Radio, who will address the consequences of health care funding cuts. David Pivar, an immigration attorney and founding member of the Global Immigration Legal Team, will speak on due process and fairness in immigration enforcement.

Dan Gashler, a local advocate for organized labor, will speak on union rights and workplace protections. Hera Goldstein-Shapiro, a teacher, trans advocate, and director of Delaware County Pride, will discuss the challenges facing LGBTQ+ individuals in the current political climate.

Attendees are encouraged to bring donations for Dan’s Pantry, a Roxbury-based food bank, as well as handmade signs and a spirit of peaceful protest. Organizers emphasized that the tone of the rally will focus on empathy, inclusion, and community solidarity.
