Delhi Police arrested Paul M. Fontana Jr., 37, of Delhi on Jan. 1 and charged him with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing.

The arrest stems from a domestic incident that occurred at a Main Street residence Dec. 31, where Fontana was taken safely into custody for psychiatric screening. Due to unlawfully possessed firearms observed during the course of taking Fontana into custody, a search warrant was obtained and executed. Fontana, a convicted felon, is prohibited by law from possessing firearms of any kind in New York.

Delhi police were assisted by University Police at SUNY Delhi, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police, Walton police, Colchester police and Manlius police. Support was also provided by the Delhi Fire Department and EMS squad.

Fontana was held at the Delaware County Jail awaiting arraignment at Delaware County CAP Court.
