The Delhi Clergy Association continued its annual school supply drive during August. The First Presbyterian Church of Delhi served as the organizing church this year with generous participation from the other local Delhi churches. The drive brought in over 1,000 items that can be used by Delaware Academy Central School to distribute to students in need, and $2,300 was raised through sales and donations and will be going to help the PTA with their after-school programs.
Donated items include backpacks, notebooks, writing and coloring implements, erasers, scissors, glue sticks and deodorant.
PTA President Rachel Watson involved several local businesses and an individual donor in the effort. The support of the community in the project is evidence that student success is viewed with high priority. By providing the tools needed students are put in a position to succeed, she said. The greater takeaway is that students know that they are loved and supported by a generous network of people that want to see them succeed.
