Woodland Cemetery officers and trustees rely on lot sales, burial fees, and the generosity of individuals to maintain its 25 steeply wooded acres. With increasing operational costs and limited resources, they face significant challenges in sustaining a peaceful and dignified resting place for the departed and a vital gathering space for the living. Consider donating to support the preservation of Woodland Cemetery. In addition to covering the cost of day-to-day operations, your generosity will help fund the removal of dangerous trees, continued road maintenance, and cemetery improvements such as trash receptacles and signage. Every contribution is appreciated. Let’s work together to ensure that the legacy of Woodland Cemetery endures for generations to come. To donate, visit www.woodlandcemeterydelhi.org/donate

Last week’s trivia question: Where was the American House Hotel located? The American House was located at the corner of Main and Meredith streets. On Jan. 6, 1907, the American House Hotel burned.

This week’s trivia question: Who was the first baby to be born in the new O’Connor Hospital in 1958?

This week’s community volunteers of the week are the helpers at the Delhi Food Pantry in the United Ministry Church, including Edie Campbell, the manager of the pantry. Edie wants to thank everyone who contributed money and/or food items to the pantry. The SME club at SUNY Delhi held a food drive as did Delaware Academy and the O’Connor Hospital. Price Chopper held a promotion whereby customers could purchase a select bag of food items which would then be donated to the pantry. These drives would not have been successful without the generosity of the community. The pantry was able to give out 25 boxes complete with turkeys for Thanksgiving dinners and another four Christmas dinners. Forty to 50 people come in once a month for food to help feed their families. Thanks to Edie and her team at the food pantry for all they do to help those in need. The Delhi Food Pantry is open Mondays from 1 until 3 p.m. and Thursdays from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. in the United Ministry Church behind the Delaware National Bank on Church Street.
