A great time was had at the Holiday Parade Friday. The weather forecast was iffy all day, but ended up holding out and a great night was had by all.

Last week’s trivia question: Who was the first librarian at the Cannon Free Library? Miss Pauline Farrington was the first librarian. The library opened on April 9, 1918 with over 4,000 volumes on the shelves. Miss Pauline issued 159 library cards.

This week’s trivia question: How many times was General Henry Leavenworth interred?

Community volunteers of the week are the members of the National Honor Society at Delaware Academy. They showed up and asked how they could help so they were put to work to set up and clean up for the festivities on the square after the parade. Thank you to these wonderful students who stepped up and to all the groups that helped make the parade and activities a success.

Bushel will screen the 2021 essay film by Raoul Peck, “Exterminate All the Brutes” Friday, Dec. 8 beginning at 5 p.m. Come for all four parts or for the first half only. “Exterminate All the Brutes,” is a four-part hybrid docuseries that provides a visually arresting journey through time, into the darkest hours of humanity. Through his personal voyage, Peck deconstructs the making and masking of history, digging deep into the exploitative and genocidal aspects of European colonialism — from America to Africa and its impact on society today.

The Pindars Corners Fire Department will host a pancake breakfast with Santa Saturday, Dec. 9 from 8 a.m. until 12 noon at 8898 State Highway 23. Come have breakfast with Santa and do some holiday shopping with local craft vendors. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.

There will be Gospel Music with Grace’s Touch Saturday, Dec. 9 between 4 and 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Delhi, 4 Clinton Street. Mark and Ellen Edwards have been singing together since they were married in 1981 and as their children came along they joined in – even if only sitting on mommy’s hip. They and their four children – Patricia, Nicole, Rebecca, and Stephen make up the group now known as Grace’s Touch. Grace’s Touch enjoys singing gospel songs in four-part family harmony and has sung in many different venues: churches, Gospel music festivals, nursing homes, senior housing, community centers, patriotic rallies, street festivals, and the county fair. It is their prayer that through their songs and their spoken words the Gospel of salvation will be clear and believers will be encouraged with truths from God’s word.

The Livestock Foundation and Saint James Church, 55 Lake Delaware Drive, will present the region’s first Christkindlmarkt — an old-world style Bavarian Christmas Market, showcasing local artisans and growers’ products for sale to visitors, and providing a magical Christmas experience for everyone Saturday, Dec. 9 between 4 and 7 p.m. Visitors to Saint James’ campus will be greeted with the smell of freshly popped kettle corn, warm pretzels, bratwurst, hot cocoa, hot spiced beverages, music and decorations. In addition to exploring products from over 20 local artisans and growers, there will be special events such as petting baby goats, making-your-own holiday centerpieces, and a visit with Santa. This is a free event, and we’re encouraging everyone to bring a new, unwrapped children’s toy for local children through the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce’s Toys for Tots Campaign.
