Last week’s trivia question: How many visitors came to the Armed Forces Parade held Sept. 7 & 8, 1957? The sergeant in charge counted 18,143 for the two-day event. Can you even imagine?

This week’s trivia question: Sept. 18 of what year was the Soldiers’ Monument dedicated at the Courthouse Square?

Community volunteer of the week is Will Outsen. You may have seen him on the Courthouse Square watering the beautiful flower barrels. Thanks to Will for his efforts to keep Delhi looking beautiful. It is appreciated. We are very fortunate that Will cares so much about Delhi.

This week you can watch the Delaware Academy Bulldogs Saturday, Sept. 23 as the girl’s modified soccer team will play South Kortright at 10 a.m. at the modified soccer field and the varsity boy’s football team will take on Tioga at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, the boy’s varsity golf team has a match against Hancock/Deposit, and the girl’s varsity soccer team will play Franklin on Dave Kelly field, both start at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, the boy’s modified soccer team plays Sidney on the modified field, the boy’s varsity soccer team plays Oxford on Dave Kelly field and the boy’s golf team plays Greene, all at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, the girl’s varsity soccer team plays B-G on Dave Kelly field at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, the boy’s soccer team will play B-G at 4:30 p.m. on Dave Kelly Field.

This week you can watch the SUNY Delhi Broncos on the new turf field by the bubble Saturday, Sept. 23 as the women’s soccer team plays at 1 p.m. and the men’s soccer team plays at 3:30 p.m. against SUNY Canton. On Thursday, Sept. 21, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office will host an exciting open house from 3 until 6 p.m. Get ready for informative demos by divisions like K-9, Special Response Team, and Road Patrol. The team is eager to answer your questions, discuss equipment, careers, and share insights about programs like Project Lifesaver and Child Safety. You can also explore our correctional facility with guided tours and meet McGruff the crime dog for an added dose of excitement. Don’t miss this enlightening and interactive experience.

The Meredith Historical Society will present the Walton to Delhi Branch of the O & W Railway Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at the former Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, 10044 Elk Creek Road, East Meredith. Attend this event to see Mark Kennaugh’s amazing collection of photographs of trains and businesses that once stood along the tracks between Walton and Delhi between 1870 and 1950.

The Run for Your LIFE 5k is a run/walk in the village of Delhi sponsored by Delhi Alliance Youth. The Youth Group uses funds from this race/walk to support their participation in the LIFE Youth conference. The start of the Run for Your LIFE 5K Run/Walk is 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23. Delhi Alliance Church, 16178 State Highway 28. Race day registration and race packet pick up opens at 7 a.m. The Run for Your LIFE 5K route begins and ends at Delhi Alliance Church. The route proceeds south on NY Route 28 to Cuddeback Avenue and into Woodland Cemetery. The route exits the cemetery onto Orchard Street, proceeds up Prospect Avenue, and onto the Delview Terrace loop. The last part of the route passes the fire station before returning to NY Route 28N to return to the start/finish line at Delhi Alliance Church. There is a $25 entry fee. The entry fee covers registration, a race t-shirt while supplies last, post-race refreshments, and awards for overall best time for both male and female and top male and female in five age brackets (12U, 13-19, 20-34, 35-49, 50+). The Delhi Harvest Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Courthouse Square. Over 60 vendors will be there including Bobby Curious to entertain us from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Come to shop, eat, and enjoy the day along Main Street in Delhi.

The 2023 SUNY Delhi Car Show will be held Saturday, Sept. 23 starting at 10 a.m. Join them for the 21st annual event at Decker Auto Lab, 1018 Arbor Hill Road. Check out great classic cars on display by alumni, retired faculty, and local automobile enthusiasts. Awards start at 1 p.m. The Hospitality Management Club will be hosting a concession stand as a fundraiser with lunch and snack items.

Hanford Mills Museum will host Metal at the Mill Exploration Day Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. which will highlight metal in a variety of ways. The day will feature a return of the Dan Rion Memorial Antique Engine Jamboree, featuring regional collectors of historic engines, tractors, and doodlebugs. The Jamboree will also feature outboard motors, model boats, and other machines. The 1948 GMC Bovina Fire Department Engine with pumper will make its first appearance at the mill, and the return of the 1957 Nash Metropolitan Hook & Ladder Firetruck ride, purchased from the Catskill Game Farm. Watch the Catskill Conquest Rally of classic cars rumble through Hanford Mills for an afternoon stop. Hanford Mills staff and volunteers will display and demonstrate some of the gas engines that are part of our historic collection, and the steam plant will be up and running. Blacksmith demonstrations will take place at the museum’s forge. The Stoddard Hollow String Band will perform traditional music from noon until 3 p.m. Food will not be sold on site but visitors are welcome to bring their lunch and snacks and enjoy them at our picnic tables. The museum will also open its 50th-anniversary exhibition, “’A Treasure in Our Valley: Fifty Years of Hanford Mills Museum, 1973-2023” in the feed mill.

The Delhi Historical Society will host the Delaware County Town and Country Quilters for a quilt show Saturday, Sept. 23, from 12 until 3 p.m. at the Cannon House, 47 Main Street. On display will be a quilt started by Clara Stewart and finished by the quilters.

The Delaware County Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk hosted by Kappa Sigma Epsilon will be held Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. Registration for the Walk is open at afsp.org/delawarecounty and will start onsite in the lower lot at SUNY Delhi at noon.

The 4th annual community harvest dinner will take place on the Courthouse Square Sunday, Sept. 24 from 4 until 7 p.m. Bring your own everything, food to share, beverage, table settings, and good humor. There will be live music and one long table with a place for everyone.

The Delhi Historical Society will present the History of Sportsfield Specialties Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m. at Cannon Free Library, 40 Elm Street. Sportsfield Specialties is Delhi-based and a national leader in the manufacture and sales of sports construction equipment for all levels of play from high school to college to professional. Director of Sales David Moxley will give a presentation that will include history, products, clients, and a few major projects of Sportsfield Specialties.

The West Kortright Centre will host an indoor concert featuring Mali Obomsawin Xtet Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at 49 West Kortright Church Road, East Meredith.
