Delaware County Youth Bureau Opens Funding for Sports and Development Programs

Posted

The Delaware County Youth Bureau is accepting applications for state-supported grants to expand sports and youth development programs, with a focus on reaching under-resourced communities. Applications are due Sept. 30.

The funding, distributed through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, is available to municipalities, nonprofit youth-serving agencies and community-based organizations. Three categories of support are open this cycle: the Youth Sports and Education Opportunity Fund, the Youth Team Sports Allocation and the Youth Development Program.

Officials said the sports grants are broadly defined, covering traditional athletics as well as activities such as dance, karate, yoga, hiking and other outdoor pursuits. Youth Development Program funding is available for a wide range of educational and enrichment programs for children and teenagers. Eligible participants include young people ages 0 to 17, depending on the program.

The grants may be used for operating expenses such as staffing, coaching, professional training, equipment and program costs. Up to 15 percent of funds may be applied to administrative overhead.

Organizations must serve youth in Delaware County and either hold nonprofit status or demonstrate that they are community-based groups operating at a local scale. Applicants must also meet child protection standards and agree to collect anonymized registration and demographic data for state reporting.

Application packets are available at the Delaware County Youth Bureau, 99 Main Street, Delhi, N.Y. For more information or assistance, contact Lara Yambor at 607-832-5310 or lara.yambor@dfa.state.ny.us
