Delaware County Sheriff named New York State Sheriffs’ Association president

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond was elected as president of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association. This prestigious role is a testament to Sheriff DuMond’s exemplary service and dedication to law enforcement and community service.

In attendance at the Jan. 17 swearing in ceremony were Tina Molé, chairman of the Delaware County Board of Supervisors, the Delaware County Court Judge John L. Hubbard, Undersheriff Kim Smith, the Delaware County Sheriffs’ Office colorguard, and many other deputies, corrections officers, investigators and staff of the Delaware County Sheriffs’ Office. Also in attendance was DuMond’s wife Karleen and three of his four sons, Christopher, Nathan and Alan. His son Brandon was unable to attend an is currently deployed in Japan with the United States Army.

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul was at the ceremony to introduce DuMond and assist with swearing-in duties. Hubbard administered the oath of office for DuMond, as well as the executive committee of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association.

A press release issued by DuMond’s office, Jan. 19 stated DuMond has served with distinction in Delaware County, earning respect and admiration for his commitment to public safety, innovative policing strategies, and community engagement. His election as President of the Association underscores his leadership qualities and his vision for advancing law enforcement across New York state, the press release continued.

In the role, DuMond will lead the association in its mission to promote and enhance the quality of law enforcement and public safety services across the state. He will work closely with sheriffs from 58 counties, fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and advocating for policies that support the vital work of law enforcement.

DuMond said he is “deeply honored” to serve as president of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association. He will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all New Yorkers and uphold the highest standards of law enforcement, DuMond said.

The New York State Sheriffs’ Association plays a critical role in shaping the landscape of law enforcement in the state. Under DuMond’s leadership, the Association is poised to continue its work in supporting sheriffs and their offices, advocating for public safety initiatives, and contributing to the welfare of the communities they serve, the press release states.
