DELHI — The Delaware Academy Student Senate will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the school’s small gym.
“The Student Senate is committed to strengthening our community and helping meet hospital and patient needs through blood donations,” said David Ainsworth, the group’s adviser. “This blood drive is our way of giving staff, colleagues and neighbors an opportunity to help save lives.”
According to the Red Cross, someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds. Because blood is perishable and can come only from volunteer donors, supplies must be replenished continually.
“We urge community members to donate blood and help ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting before an emergency occurs,” Ainsworth said. “There’s no better feeling than knowing that your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life.”
The Red Cross is seeking donors of all blood types, particularly those with O-negative, A-negative and B-negative blood.
To make an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code delawareacademy.
The Delaware Academy Student Senate is a service organization that supports the school community and represents the student body as a liaison to the administration.
