Delaware Academy Produces The Addams Family Musical

Posted

DELHI - On Thursday, March 12, at 4 p.m., senior citizens are invited to the Delaware Academy auditorium where they will be treated to a free dress rehearsal of the timeless tale, The Addams Family Musical. The Delaware Academy Hillside Players will host  area senior citizens to view the annual school musical and have dinner in the district’s dining hall.

This comedic tale follows the story of the iconic and famously straight-faced Wednesday Addams who has grown up and fallen in love with an unlikely young man from Ohio. Fearing her unusual family might scare her fiancé’s family off, she instructs them to give her “one normal night.” But, trouble abounds when her little brother Pugsley gets jealous and fears his older sister will no longer have time for him and Gomez does the one thing he swore he would never do--he lies to his wife. The Addams Family Musical is based on the American gothic sitcom that first aired in 1964, which itself was based on cartoonist Charles Addams’ work in The New Yorker magazine. The sitcom was adapted for the stage by Andrew Lippa, Marshall Brickman, and Rick Elise, and when The Addams Family Musical debuted on Broadway in 2010, it did so to considerable acclaim. This humorous tale includes many songs sure to become favorites, including “When You’re an Addams,” “One Normal Night,” “Trapped,” and “Full Disclosure,” to name a few.

At intermission (around 6 p.m.) seniors will be escorted to the district’s dining hall for a chicken and biscuit dinner served by Delaware Academy’s food service staff and the cast of the show. They will then return to the theater to enjoy the rest of the musical.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to call the Office for the Aging at 607-832-5750 in advance so that the food service department can have an accurate estimate for meal production. A donation of $5 for the dinner is encouraged to help offset costs.
