On Saturday my granddaughter Makinsey Schriver and Austin came to see me along with their son Asner Owen. I got to hold little Asner to get to know him for the first time. His grandfather Jeremy Schriver also came to see his grandson. We all enjoyed seeing and holding our new family relative.

Combine rhubarb and strawberries in large bowl. Combine sugar and tapioca in small bowl. Add to fruit and let stand while preparing pie shell. Put fruit mixture into pie shell. Bake at 400 for 40 to 45 minutes.

My Thoughts of the week: For three days this week we had the smoke from the wild fires in Canada. I stayed in the house those days so it couldn’t bother the breathing - I hope everyone else did the same. I know it was worse on down the state and I’m told the fires are still burning.

Lynn Kinch’s joke of the week: An architect was having a difficult time with a prospective home builder. “Can’t you give me some idea of the type of house you want?” “Well,” the client responded slowly, “All I know is that it has to go with an antique doorknob my wife bought in Vermont.”

Senior Moments: Not good dear God! I found a library book in the den. It was due back six months ago. Now I owe a big fine and I haven’t even read it yet...or have I and I just don’t remember?

A cute saying: You know you’re out of shape when you can get “runner’s high” just by getting out of bed.

Helpful Hints: Flour your mix-ins. If you lightly coat chocolate chips or blueberries with flour before you add them to muffins or cake batter they won’t sink to the bottom when baking them.
