The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking to fill various positions for its upcoming Summer Camps Program, offering a unique chance for individuals to gain hands-on experience in outdoor education, leadership, and conservation while immersing themselves in New York’s natural beauty.

For the 78th consecutive year, DEC will hire approximately 60 seasonal employees to work at its four residential camps, providing week-long conservation education programs for children ages 11 to 17. The camps are located across the state: Camp Colby in Saranac Lake (Franklin County), Camp DeBruce in Livingston Manor (Sullivan County), Camp Pack Forest in Warrensburg (Warren County), and Camp Rushford in Caneadea (Allegany County).

Positions available include:

• Counselors

• Cooks

• Camp Aides 1 and 2

Salaries for these seasonal roles range from $6,300 to $10,300 for the full summer, with all positions offering room and board. Employment begins in June and runs through mid-August.

To broaden the pool of candidates and enhance workforce opportunities, DEC has updated its eligibility criteria, now accepting applicants who may not have previous experience as a DEC summer camper.
