Deadlines for filing petitions for village trustee, mayor, justice

Village elections for Delaware County trustees and/or mayor and/or village justice seats will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023, except village of Deposit, from noon until 9 p.m. at designated polling locations in each community.

• Jan. 26, first day to file a certificate of party nomination. 

• Feb. 2, last day to file a certificate of party nomination. 

• Feb. 6, last day to file certificate of acceptance or declination of party nomination. 

• Feb. 7 - 14, dates for filing independent nominating petitions 

• Feb. 6, last day to fill vacancy caused by declination of party nomination. 

• Feb. 15, last day to file written objections to independent nominating petitions.

• Feb 17, last day to file certificate of acceptance or declination of an independent nomination. Last day to file written specifications of objections to independent nominating petitions.

• Feb. 21, last day to file certificate to fill a vacancy in an independent nomination caused by a declination.

• March 10, Last day for voter to register with board of elections to vote in village election. 

• March 14, Last day for Village to receive application for an absentee ballot to be mailed to a voter. Last day for the Board of Elections to provide a list of registered voters to the Village Clerk.

• March 15, last day for the village clerk to mail absentee ballots to qualified voters.

• March 20, last day for applicant (or his agent) to personally deliver application for an absentee ballot to the village clerk. 

• March 21, Election Day.

• March 23, last day a re-canvass of the vote may be requested to the Board of Elections.
