Classic Country Returns to the Walton Theatre Coffeehouse March 15

Posted

WALTON - The monthly Coffeehouse series at the Walton Theatre continues March 15 with an evening of classic country and rock performed by longtime local musicians Larry Jamieson and Terri Whitney. The concert, presented by Music on the Delaware, will run from 6 to 8 p.m. in the theatre’s Andrea Retz Paternoster Room. Admission is free, with donations accepted. Desserts and drinks will be available.

Jamieson, a guitarist and bassist, is widely known in the region as a founding member of the Country Express Dance Band and as the longtime owner of the Walton Music House, which he operated from 1985 to 2015. After studying country music and working in educational television in Oklahoma in the 1970s, he returned to Walton, where he became a fixture in local dance bands, including Country Express. Though recently retired from the band, he continues to teach music lessons and direct his church choir.

Whitney, who served for years as lead vocalist for Country Express, began singing in church and school choirs as a child and later formed a band in high school to perform at school events. She placed second in the Ultimate Idol competition in Oneonta and has performed at sock hops across the region. She counts among her career highlights a single onstage appearance with Kenny Rogers. She, too, recently stepped away from Country Express.

The Coffeehouse series is held on the third Sunday of each month from September through December and January through May. Two performances remain in the spring lineup: flutist Emily Hutchinson and cellist Svetlana Garitselova on April 19, and the Loren Daniels Trio on May 17.
