Clair Guy Gray

Clair Guy Gray, 89, of Truth or Consequences, NM, passed away at home on June 21, 2026. Clair was born in Walton to Aldon and Beulah Gray on Aug. 29, 1936.

He attended school in Walton and at age 17 joined the Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Hancock and was honorably discharged in September 1957. Soon after returning home he began working as a long haul truck driver. He was employed by 24 companies over his 55 year career, which started at Breakstones in Walton, spending 20 years at LTL in Owego, NY, and team driving in New Mexico. His last trip was in 2012 at the age of 76. In his retirement years he spent many hours volunteering at the Dianne Hamilton Military Museum in Truth or Consequences, NM, where he gave tours and played a key role in acquiring a retired helicopter to display on the museum grounds. Clair’s remains will be placed in the museum’s Veteran’s Memorial Garden.

Clair was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Cowart and his son-in-law Joseph Cowart, both of Crossville, TN.

Clair is survived by his sister, Edna (Sue) Jennings, Maryland, NY-previously Walton, NY; His children, Scott (Rebecca), Ridott, IL, Peter, Yuma, AZ, Marjorie Naples (Doug Bushy),Oneida, NY and Daniel (Cora), Truth or Consequences, NM; six grandchildren, Daniel Cowart (Tabatha),Matthew Cowart (Ashley), Jennifer Cowart (Justin Cooper), all of Crossville, TN. Garrett Gray and Gabrielle Gray, both of Charlotte, NC, Aaron Naples (Nicole), Treadwell. NY, Lindsay Scheller (Geoff), Cogan Station, PA, Cory Gray (Marissa), Santa Paula, CA. and several great-grandchildren. He will also be fondly remembered by many extended family members including his nephew, Michael Jennings (Bonnie), Zephyr Hills, FL, and their children, his niece Michelle Pattison (Pat), Maryland, NY, and their children and other close family friends.
