Walton Lions Club fundraises with annual flower sale

Posted

WALTON - The Walton Lions Club is hosting its 27th annual flower sale Friday, May 10 through Sunday, May 12 at RenRest Lumber and Building Supply on West Street, Walton. Hanging baskets can be purchased for $25 Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The flower sale, initiated by Vern Wildenstein, is one of the club’s major fundraisers held each year, said President-elect Matt King. Proceeds from Lions’ fundraisers benefit the Walton community through two HOBY Scholarships, donations to Walton Little League, the food bank, the toy bank and other community improvement projects.

Last year the club donated to the school’s AVP (Alternatives to Violence) program, and each year the club gives gift certificates for food purchases from the Walton Big M to families in need during the Christmas holiday season. The club also sponsors a majority of parades held in Walton by providing a needed certificate of insurance for the event.

This year, current President Bob Vitti will step down after four years at the helm, and Matt King will assume the leadership role in July.

The next community project for Lions Club members is the hanging of approximately 200 banners recognizing the military service of Walton residents throughout the business district. The hanging of the banners will take place Sunday, May 19.

Walton Lions Club is seeking new members. To join, or for more information, attend a monthly meeting held the third Thursday of each month, at 6 p.m., at Danny’s Restaurant in Walton.
