Catskill Mountain Little League will welcome the community to their annual chicken/rib barbecue held at Archibald Field in Stamford Saturday, June 17. The barbecue will be run by Cargie’s of Richmondville and kicks off at 4 p.m., followed by two vintage ballgames.
Starting at 5 p.m., Little League coaches will team up with members of the Delaware County Vintage Base Ball Association in a “picked nine” format of 1864 rules baseball. The game will be three innings followed by Little Leaguers of all ages to take a crack at the vintage ball with a wood bat and run the bases while coaches and vintage ballists shag balls in the field.
All children ages 4 and up are welcome to take a turn at bat.
The evening will cap off at 7 p.m. with a match between the Fleischmanns Mountain Athletic Club and Bovina Dairymen. The clubs will square off for seven innings of the 1864 game followed by seven innings of 1895 under the lights.
Advance purchase of tickets for the barbecue is strongly encouraged by contacting Sarah Abbatine at sabbatine34@gmail.com. A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase on site starting at 4 p.m. until sold out. A 50/50 raffle will be held with all proceeds to benefit the little league. Admission to the ball games is free.
