The Catskill Mountain Club has released its January–February hiking schedule, offering a series of free, member-led outings across the Catskill Mountains as winter settles in.
Founded more than two decades ago, the grassroots nonprofit organizes hiking, paddling and biking trips throughout the region while advocating for non-motorized outdoor recreation. Participation is open to the public, and all trips are led by volunteer members.
The upcoming schedule features both classic Catskill summits and lower-elevation trail systems:
• Friday: Balsam Cap, Rocky, Lone, Table and Peekamoose Mountains
• Saturday, Jan. 24 (8 a.m.–8 p.m.): Plateau, Sugarloaf, Twin and Indian Head Mountains
• Saturday, Jan. 31 (8 a.m.–6 p.m.): Frick Pond, Big Rock and Loggers Loop Trails
• Sunday, Feb. 1 (9 a.m.–1 p.m.): Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain
• Wednesday, Feb. 4 (8 a.m.–4 p.m.): Slide, Cornell and Wittenberg Mountains
• Saturday, Feb. 7 (8 a.m.–4 p.m.): Slide, Cornell and Wittenberg Mountains
Detailed information, including meeting locations, pace and equipment requirements, is available on the club’s website. The hikes are free, but winter conditions may require experience, traction devices and appropriate cold-weather gear.
