With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cathy Louise Bennett, who departed this life on April 20, 2025, at the age of 73. Born June 19, 1951 in Walton to Augustus and Mary Barnhart, Cathy married the love of her life, Gary Bennett Sr., on Dec. 31, 1997. Gary predeceased her on March 22, 2021. Cathy was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.
Cathy was an extremely hard worker her entire life. She was still employed at CADI food services, where she dedicated her time and heart to the students of SUNY Delhi. Cathy was an avid golfer, where she enjoyed her time on the golf course with her family at Ouleout Golf Course and had a special place in her heart for the Butch Murphy Memorial Golf Tournament. She always looked forward to her trips to Turning Stone to play bingo with Estelle. When Cathy wasn’t working in the summer she enjoyed spending time with her grandson Jayden. Family vacations to the beach were some of Cathy’s happiest moments, and she took immense pride in supporting her grandchildren at Delaware Academy. Her love for her family and the joy she found in their pursuits will always be remembered and celebrated.
Cathy is survived by her devoted children, Robin Davis of Walton, and Chad Shaw (Katrina) of Delhi; sister-in-law Estelle Barnhart of Walton, also the other children that came into her life: David Shaw (Tanya), Phil and Annette Carnicelli, Tom and Georgia Hall, Tammy Mullineaux, Gary Bennett Jr. (Cathy) and Jason Bennett; her grandchildren David and Helena Allison, Mary Davis, Jayden Shaw, Skyler Riggs, Torry and Stephen Carnicelli, Keenan Hall (Michaela), and Derrick and Dana Mullineaux. Cathy was also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.
Cathy was predeceased by her parents, beloved brother Tom Barnhart of Walton and devoted husband, Gary.
Calling hours will be held Monday, April 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A memorial service honoring Cathy’s life will be held at 6 with Pastor Larry Light officiating. We gather to celebrate a remarkable woman who brought laughter and light into our lives.
Memorial contributions may be made in Cathy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
