Bright Hill Opens 34th Season May 16

Bright Hill Press Word & Image Gallery will open its 34th season with an exhibition built on chance, collaboration and surrealism.

“CONseQuENCES,” opening May 16, assembles more than 60 artists, writers and poets in a large-scale interpretation of the Surrealist “Exquisite Corpse” tradition — a collaborative process in which participants continue a work without fully seeing what came before.

Curated by artist Jim Napierala, the exhibition draws contributors from across New York and as far away as California. Organizers said the project invites artists to work outside familiar boundaries while exploring creativity “in this, the most surreal of times.”

The opening reception will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 16, followed by an object theater performance of “The Rise of Mangor” by artist and puppeteer Sean Taggart.

The exhibition runs through June 14. Gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or by appointment.

Founded in 1992, Bright Hill Press hosts literary, visual arts and educational programming, including workshops, readings and community arts events.
