BOVINA CENTER — Bovina Center Montessori School has reached a milestone of 65 students from 16 Delaware County towns and is set to launch a high school program by the 2026-27 academic year. Founded in 2021 by Sophie Wallas Rasmussen and David Madié, the school began with just 32 students and now provides Montessori education from toddler to middle school, with plans to extend through high school.
Starting in January 2025, new scholarships will be available for middle school students (ages 12-15) through the Kidskill Fund and the school’s scholarship fund. The initiative aims to make Montessori education accessible to more families in the region, regardless of financial means.
The school, located on a 50-acre former farm in Bovina Center, offers programs for children aged 18 months to 15 years. Its curriculum meets New York state’s “academic equivalence” standards, ensuring students receive the same core education as other schools, but with Montessori’s hands-on, child-led approach.
