Ballot Battles: Contested Supervisor Races Take Shape Across Delaware County

With petition filings complete for the November 2026 general election, voters across Delaware County are poised to see a slate of contested races for town supervisor and other municipal offices, setting the stage for an active local election season this fall.

According to records from the Delaware County Board of Elections dated May 26, a number of towns will feature head-to-head contests, while others remain uncontested.

Among the contested races is one in the town of Delhi, where incumbent Democrat Maya I. Boukai will be challenged by Republican and Conservative candidate Mark E. Tuthill for supervisor. Boukai also secured an independent “DUN” line.

In the town of Hancock, Supervisor Jerry G. Vernold will face challenger Samuel N. Rowe Jr. Vernold will appear on the Conservative line and an independent line. Rowe has also secured an independent line. The two will face off in a Republican primary on June 23.

The supervisor contest in town of Roxbury also features multiple ballot lines. Democrat Thomas J. O’Brien will challenge incumbent Allen R. Hinkley, who secured Republican, Conservative and PVP [independent] party lines.

Another competitive race is shaping up in the town of Meredith, where Democrat Stephanie H. Munro will face incumbent Republican and independent candidate James G. Ellis for supervisor.

In the town of Hamden, Democrat Jonathan C. Kilday will challenge Republican and independent candidate Wayne L. Shepard for supervisor.

In the town of Andes, John R. Bouton is running unopposed on the Republican line for superintendent of highways. Kenneth R. Eck Jr. is running unopposed as a Republican for highway superintendent in Colchester, while Jamie D. Archibald is unopposed on the Republican line in Franklin. In Hamden, Rodney Tweedie is running unopposed as a Republican for highway superintendent. Harry Craft is unopposed on the Republican line in Kortright, Bradley Hitchcock is running unopposed as a Republican in Meredith, and Gordon Finch Jr. is unopposed on the Republican line in Masonville. Jeffrey Offnick is also running unopposed as a Republican for highway superintendent in Walton. In Bovina, Edward Weber is running unopposed for highway superintendent on the Democratic line.

Other uncontested supervisor races on the November ballot include:

Colchester - Robert W. Hafele (Republican)

Davenport - Timothy S. Kelso (Republican)

Franklin - Donald Smith (Republican)

Middletown - Glen A. Faulkner (Democratic and independent lines)

Stamford - John S. Kosier (Republican)

Walton - Joseph M. Cetta (Republican)

Kortright - George E. Haynes Jr. (Republican)

Masonville - Betty L. Scott (Republican)

Incumbent town clerks Cathy Roloson, Hamden,  Sonja Johns, Franklin, Kristin Craft, Kortright, and Carrie Hewitt Choquette, Bovina, are running on the Republican line, unopposed.

Incumbent Hamden town justice Gay Merrill is running unopposed on the Republican line. Jennifer L. Valentine is running unopposed as a Republican for Deposit town justice.

In all, 56 candidates filed for local offices countywide, including town supervisor, highway superintendent, clerk, tax collector, justice and state committee positions.

The general election will be held Nov. 3.
