Arthur Tompkins

Arthur (Artie) Earl Tompkins was called home on Sunday morning, Aug. 14, 2022.

He was born March 28, 1946 to Paul and Iona (McUmber) Tompkins in Callicoon.

Art enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1963-1968. His title was machine operator, and he receive badges for sharpshooter (rifle M-14) and marksman (rifle M-14) and received a good conduct award. Upon his return he worked at Celotex in Deposit, drove a stone truck for Tompkins Bluestone, and worked at Bard-Parker where he was a molding setup technician until he took an early retirement. He owned and operated Tompkins Hunting & Logging, where his son worked alongside him until he retired in 2005.

Art had a great love for horses - he showed them and barrel raced for many years, taking home several trophies and ribbons. He was an avid hunter and was a member of several clubs. Art loved his mountain where he lived, worked and played. Art enjoyed spending time with his hunting club family.

Art leaves behind his companion Maryln Pease at home, two daughters Mitzi (Thomas) Buchholz of Horton, Nicole (Shaun) Green of Centerville, and one son Lewis Tompkins of Fishs Eddy; six grandchildren - Alexis, Brittney and Taylor Keesler, Gwendolyn Lobdell and husband Bradley, and Vanessa and Ethan Tompkins; four great-grandchildren, Aidan Seiblies, Landon, Alexander and Kensley and a great-grandson on the way; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Art was predeceased by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law Dixie (Ray) Ronk, and first wife and mother of his children, Brenda Ostrander.

Art will be missed by not only his family but the countless friends he had.

Calling hours were Saturday, Aug. 20. A funeral service followed at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Interment was in the Cooks Falls Cemetery, Cooks Falls.
