DELHI – Despite the state reporting another confirmed case of COVID-19 to the county, the numbers locally stayed the same on Monday.
That's because, in this and ten other cases, the patient reported by the state turned out to not physically be in Delaware County. So that case was transferred to the proper location.
The total number of cases locally ticked up to 69, but 11 of them were not actually in the county.
Nine local people are isolating at home, two people remain hospitalized, 43 have recovered, and four people have died from the virus. The county has ordered mandatory quarantine for 29 people and nine more test results are pending.
In an effort to minimize exposure to the virus, the state Board of Elections today announced it is cancelling the June 23 presidential primary. An April appropriations bill gave them the authority to remove a candidate's name when that campaign is ended. But supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders were hoping that his name on the ballot would give his platform some delegates, and some clout at the national convention, and his campaign has responded that the decision is a “blow to democracy.”
Meanwhile, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that a wider sample of state residents indicates that as many as a quarter of all New York City residents have antibodies indicating they have contracted COVID-19. Upstate, that number has climbed from 13.9% to 14.9%.
More than 17,000 New Yorkers have died from the virus, but the death toll and hospitalization rate statewide is continuing to decline, leading the state to plan for a phased, regional, re-opening based on infection rate and hospitalizations beginning on May 15. For other areas, the governor said, the shutdown will be extended again.
Cuomo also announced more drive-through testing sites upstate, a $25 million dollar fund for food banks hard hit by demand, and a program to buy upstate farm products to distribute to food banks across the state.
