RPI Projection Shows Peak in Upstate Cities Is Weeks Away

DELHI – Delaware County Public Health announced Saturday it has received an additional positive lab report for COVID-19.

The total number of positive results reported stands at 62, and four people have died. Four people are still hospitalized and and additional 82 are in mandatory quarantine. Six results are still pending.

Meanwhile, as the rate of hospitalization begins to drop off statewide, there is a new model indicating that some upstate cities will probably see a peak of the infection as late as May or June, with twice the number of people impacted if restrictions are loosened early.

RPI yesterday announced projections created by a machine learning model indicate that if 75% of the Capital Region population continues to stay home, the COVID-19 pandemic will peak there at 750 cases a day, a total of 29,000 people, in the second half of May. If the rate of people staying home drops to 50%, it will likely peak at 1,490 cases a day, with a total of 59,000 cases, in early June.
