Along the Upper Delaware, Two Gatherings Aim to Turn Community Into Stewardship

Posted

Two upcoming events this fall will bring residents, scientists and advocates together around a shared concern: the future of the Upper Delaware River.

Friends of the Upper Delaware River (FUDR) will host its annual Riverfest on Sept. 12 in Hancock Town Square, a family-oriented event designed to blend recreation with education. Organizers say the daylong gathering will feature river-related activities alongside outreach efforts focused on stream science, conservation work and watershed stewardship.

The event is intended as both an introduction and an invitation — a space where neighbors, visitors and partner organizations can engage directly with the issues shaping the river’s health while connecting with one another.

Later in the season, FUDR will convene a more formal exchange of ideas at its Upper Delaware River Rendezvous, scheduled for Oct. 21–22 at the Villa Roma in Callicoon.

The two-day conference is expected to draw a cross-section of stakeholders, including scientists, policymakers, anglers and funders. Programming will include keynote-style presentations, panel discussions and breakout sessions, with an emphasis on collaboration and long-term planning for the watershed.

Together, the events reflect a dual approach — one rooted in community engagement, the other in technical dialogue — both aimed at sustaining the ecological and economic vitality of the Upper Delaware River. For more information visit fudr.org
