Adirondack Mountain Club’s Susquehanna Chapter Expands 2026 Hiking Program

Posted

The Susquehanna Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club offers monthly hikes, outings and meetings for people interested in exploring the outdoors.

The chapter’s Tuesday morning hikes are generally short and relatively easy, following rolling or flat terrain at a leisurely pace. Details about individual outings are available on the chapter’s outing schedule at susqadk.org/outing-schedule. For meeting times and locations, call or text the chapter’s Hike Line at 607-431-8010.

Hikers should have a level of fitness appropriate for the activity and bring suitable clothing, gear and enough water. Any hike that differs from the typical difficulty or distance will be noted in its description.

The chapter meets on the third Wednesday of each month. From September through May, meetings are held at 6 p.m. in the community room at Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta. From June through August, meetings are held at local parks, with locations announced in advance.

Meetings begin with a potluck supper. Participants should bring a dish to share, along with their own table service and beverages. Those not attending the supper may arrive for the program, which begins at 7 p.m. Both members and nonmembers are welcome.

The chapter encourages members traveling from outside Oneonta to carpool to meetings and activities as part of an effort to reduce its carbon footprint.

2026 Saturday All-Day Hike Series

Following the success of a new Saturday hiking program introduced last year, the Susquehanna Chapter is expanding its All-Day Hike Series in 2026.

The program was created to offer longer, more challenging hikes in new areas. Last year, seven hikes were scheduled on the third Saturday of each month from April through October. More than 80 people participated overall, with each hike reaching a strong level of enrollment.

The 2026 series will feature 10 Saturday hikes, including several returning favorites and new destinations. The hikes will cover greater distances and elevation than the chapter’s regular Tuesday outings. Participants should bring their own lunch.

Saturday hikes require advance registration and are limited to 20 participants per outing.

For information about upcoming hikes and registration, visit susqadk.org  or call or text the Hike Line at 607-431-8010.
