A home run for home roots: Hamden Bicentennial features vintage base ball games

HAMDEN - Vintage baseball games were held throughout the weekend during the Hamden Bicentennial celebration Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13 at Crawford Field, Launt Hollow Road., Edward B. Chace Field, and Happy P. Chace Field. The free-admission games celebrated the history of vintage base ball, played with historic rules like no catching gloves, fly balls can bounce once and still be called an out, and no tagging up on fly balls out-of-bounds.

Delaware County is home to three vintage baseball teams that make up the Delaware County Vintage Base Ball Association, including Mountain Athletic Club in Fleischmanns, the Bovina Dairymen and the Delhi Base Ball Club operating out of Hamden.
