SIDNEY — The Hill and Valley Garden Club of Sidney has named Cathy Johnson of 112 West Main Street as the first Green Thumb Award winner of the 2025 gardening season.
Johnson’s spring garden turned heads with a vibrant display of yellow irises stretching across her front yard. As the season progresses, purple liatris and colorful gladiolas take their place, while bold, red impatiens brighten the lower beds. Two hanging baskets of petunias adorn the front porch, and neatly trimmed boxwoods provide a year-round touch of green on either side of the home.
Johnson’s front lawn features two circular gardens—one surrounding a flagpole flying the American flag, the other bordering the driveway. Both showcase carefully arranged orange and yellow marigolds paired with white gardenias, set against a backdrop of fresh brown mulch and a manicured lawn.
The Hill and Valley Club praised Johnson for her dedication to creating a welcoming and visually striking garden for the community to enjoy.
The club meets monthly on the third Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sidney Memorial Public Library. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Gail Lamond at sglamond@gmail.com
