Delaware County’s has reduced by 3,672 residents, or 7.7%, since 2010, according to the 2020 Census. Adults age 18 or older made up 82.5% of the population in 2020, a decline of 5.3% from 2010. The youth population has declined by 17.5% since 2010, the census reports, from 19.6% in 2010 to 17.5% in 2020.

The youth population has declined in each town in Delaware County, aside from Delhi, which saw a youth population increase of 1.4% since 2010, according to the Census. Youth in Andes, in 2010, accounted for 14.7% of the population, but in 2020, only 11% of the population were youth-aged, reflecting a 35.6% decline in youth population since 2010.

Most towns saw an overall population decline, though Bovina had a population increase of 3.9% since 2010. Deposit experienced the largest decline in population with a 16.6% decrease since 2010, according to the Census.

The population change is also reflected in housing statistics; the 2020 vacancy rate for Delaware County was 35.9%, including seasonal occupancies. In 2020, the Census reported 29,953 total housing units in the county, with 19,193 occupied, and 10,760 vacant; a 5% increase in vacant homes from 2010.

Andes had the highest vacancy rate in 2020 of 56%, with 582 of 1,322 housing units in Andes occupied, and 740 vacant.

Race and ethnicity population changed only slightly in Delaware County: White, 87.6%, Hispanic or Latino, 4.5%, Black (Non-Hispanic) 2.3%, Asian (Non-Hispanic) 1.1%, Two or more races (Non-Hispanic) 4.0%, Other race, 0.6%. The population of residents who reported to be two races or more increased by 238.8% since 2010, from 1.1%, the Census reported.
