My true love

Why would one leave Florida to retire on a hilltop in Delaware County in the state of New York, you ask? If you didn’t ask, there have been many who inquired for you. More than a few folks have made it their lifelong dream to leave this cold and snow for sun and sandy beaches. Maybe you are one of them.

My dream was for beckoning mountains, hillsides dotted with plentiful pastures surrounded with woods of pines and maples and more. Add starry nights without city lights. I longed to leave humid heat, bugs galore, and sprawling congestion. Add the only hill is an access ramp off an expressway.

Buying a few acres to erect a small retreat center with yurts tucked in the woods for folks from any city to encounter what I love first hand, completed the dream. Add hiking trails for a liaison with the soothing sounds, sights, and smells of nature’s buffet.

You can’t leave in spring when there are surprises sprouting every other day. You don’t want to leave in summer when there are 50 shades of green at every look. You could never leave in fall with its rolling hills of varicolored reds and golden yellows. You might want to get away in winter but you would miss the glistening beauty and the silence of the white.

And if you haven’t guessed by now, my hilltop in Delaware County in the state of New York, is my true love.
