Delhi: Dogs must be licensed, vaccinated against rabies

Posted

DELHI - The Delhi Town Clerk’s office reminds town and village residents that New York State Agriculture and Market Law requires all dogs older than 4 months be licensed. Licensing ensures that all dogs have been properly vaccinated against rabies. The llicecnse fee for spayed/neutered dogs is $6 per year; unspayed/un-neutered is $15 per year.

A $10 late fee will be imposed if a dog is not licensed prior to the expiration of the most recent valid license. The late fee will be in addition to the renewal fee and any criminal or civil penalties. Fees will be imposed for each month the dog remains unlicensed, commencing the day after the license expired and accrue until dog is relicensed and all fees are paid in full.

If a dog is unlicensed and/or is caught running loose, the dog is subject to seizure and the owner is subject to a court appearance and a fine, as well as redemption fees from the shelter. Failure to license a dog may result in an appearance ticket and  fine.

All dogs must be leased while off the owner’s property.
