19th Annual Delaware County 4-H Duck Race

WALTON - On Saturday, July 22, Delaware County 4-Hers met at Walton’s Third Brook for the 19th annual Delaware County 4-H Duck Race. The ducks were launched down the Third Brook and landed at the Delaware Street Bridge. Spectators and 4-Hers watched the 648 colorful ducks float down the brook.  

This year’s winners were:

Duck race 

• 1st place winner was Liam Homovich, Downsville, winning $500; was sold by Kerry Young from the Kountry Kids & Kritters 4-H Club from Walton.

• 2nd place winner was Leslie Mokay, Delhi, winning $250; duck was sold by Charlotte Kelly from the Super Clovers 4-H Club from Delhi.

• 3rd place winner was Ann LePinnet, Walton, winning $150; duck was sold by Nolan Evans from the Super Clovers 4-H Club from Delhi.

• 4th place winner was Libby Kelly, Delhi, winning $100; duck was sold by Josie Kelly from the Super Clovers 4-H Club from Delhi.

• 5th place winner was Luke Bishop, Delhi, winning $50; duck was sold by Lucinda Bishop from the Country Bumpkins 4-H Club from Delhi.

Club winners

• 1st place club winner was the Kountry Kids & Kritters from Walton, led by Lisa Nichols, winning $100, plus the ‘Quack Award.’ The club sold 233 duck tickets. The ‘Quack Award’ is a duck-shaped plaque which is presented to the 1st place club. The Kountry Kids & Kritters name will be engraved on a name plate and will be displayed at the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Hamden. The club will receive a smaller version of the ‘Quack Award.’

• 2nd place club winner was the Super Clovers 4-H Club from Delhi, led by Libby Kelly, winning $50. The club sold 125 duck tickets.

Sellers

• 1st place winner was Brianna May from the Hollister Hill Hoppers 4-H Club, Delhi, selling 74 ducks and winning $100.

• 2nd place winner was Kenneth Young from the Kountry Kids & Kritters 4-H Club, Walton, selling 70 ducks and winning $75.

• 3rd place winner was Madelyn Eklund from The Future’s Finest 4-Hers Club, Davenport, selling 55 ducks and winning $50. 

• 4th place winner was Lucinda Bishop from the Country Bumpkins 4-H Club, Delhi, selling 52 ducks and winning $25.

Random drawing

This year’s winner of the random drawing, selected from all the ducks sold, was Nancy Grotevant, Walton, winning $50.

All proceeds of the 4-H Duck Race will benefit the 4-H program in Delaware County to offset the cost of 4-H educational materials and programming for members and leaders.
