William Philip Gross

William Philip Gross, 76, of Cadosia, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at home, after a brief illness. He was born on Feb. 26, 1945 in Middletown, the only child of Albert M. and Aleatha (Hunter) Gross. 

Bill graduated from Hancock Central School in 1964. He was married on Aug. 21, 1965. Bill worked at the Hancock Herald, Mallery Lumber, and spent 33 years with New York State Department of Transportation, retiring in 2000. He often worked extra jobs to support his family including, cutting bluestone and ash bolts, and doing masonry work on evenings and weekends.

Bill grew up fishing for trout in Cadosia Creek, bass fishing in local lakes and in the reservoir, salmon fishing in Pulaski, and he passed on his love of the outdoors to his children. He also loved trapping and hunting and spending time with his many friends at his hunting camps. Bill was a member of the Cadosia Presbyterian Church, AAB Fraternity, Zero Hunting Club, O & W Hunting Club, Cadosia Valley Hunting Club, Hancock Fire Department, and the NRA.

Surviving are 7 children, Christopher and wife, Danielle (Ritt) Gross, William and wife, Laurie (Ritt) Gross, Rebecca and husband, Gordie Isham, Cheryl and husband, Brian Laauser, Laura and husband, Boomer Bojo, Mary-joe and husband, Randy MacRabie, and Patricia and husband, Brad Esolen, 24 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth Gross. 

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. There will also be one hour of calling on Tuesday, June 15 from 10-11 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., also at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
