William P. Elwood

William P. Elwood, 83, of Andes, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on Aug. 11, 1938 in Central Islip, he moved to Shavertown with his family as a young child and then to Andes when Shavertown was dissolved. William was the son of the late Donald and Mary (Cook) Elwood.

William married Harriette V. (Cary) Elwood on July 26, 1958. She passed away April 1, 2013.

A former resident of North Babylon, he was a pipeline welder with the Local #138 International Union of Operating Engineers from 1958 and is still a member. William moved to Andes in 2000.

William was an avid hunter and enjoyed building custom cars and dune buggies. He was a 40 year member of two pistol clubs - 20 years in Great Cove and 20 years in Delhi. William was also a lifelong member of the Tremperskill Rod and Gun Club.

Besides his wife, William was preceded by a sister Marybelle Nohejl.

Surviving are four children, William Elwood Jr. of Delhi, Cheryl Ann McCue (Steven T. McCue) of Manorville, Lisa Mary Elwood of Lowville and  Danny Elwood

(Linda Mikulewich) of Andes; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; best friends Henry Cook and Andy Papadimitropoulos; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday March 10, at the Hall & Pete Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi.

A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, March 11 at St. Anne’s Church, Andes.
