Wesley Burczak

Wesley “Whip” Burczak passed suddenly at home in DeLancey on Sept. 24, 2018.

He was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Glen Cove, the first child of the late Wesley and Julia (Ignatowski) Burczak.

Wesley moved to a dairy farm on Stoddard Hollow, Delhi, in 1949, and then to DeLancey 20 years later. For 24 years he worked at Del-Met in Walton, retiring when rheumatoid arthritis made it impossible to continue.

Mr. Burczak served as Boy Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, and elder of the DeLancey Presbyterian Church. He liked to hunt and fish, crossword puzzles, chess, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. He was a devoted and beloved father, grandfather and husband.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Martha (Bryden) Burczak; children Theodore (Catherine) Burczak of Granville, Ohio, James ( Teresa) Burczak of Delhi and Susan ( Jan) Kratky of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren Jack and George Wesley Burczak of Granville and Carly and Grace Burczak of Delhi; brother Russell (Cheri) Burczak of Delhi; sister Dawn (Dan) Cole of East Norwich; and special cousin George (June) Egan of Walton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services were be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 at the DeLancey United Presbyterian Church where friends and family were invited to call one hour prior to the service. Burial followed at Hamden Cemetery.
