Democrats! Remember to vote in the primary election on June 25 (early voting June 15 to 23) between Janet Tweed of Delhi, and me, Mary Finneran of Cairo. We both seek Chris Tague’s seat in Assembly District 102 (AD102). I was happy to see this paper reported recently on the primary in this enormous district.
The Reporter has done a good job reporting on my fellow democrat. I’d like the readers to know more about me, too.
Many know me as a social/political/environmental activist. Those who were involved in the Constitution pipeline battle may remember how hard we worked together (hearings, letters, rallies, etc.) and succeeded in stopping it!
As a Sierra Club member I have continued similar work, along with much work on the legislative team and with allied groups to push to get vital bills passed. As an art educator, I taught secondary students critical thinking and creative problem solving skills for twenty-five years; fifteen at Coxsackie-Athens Central School District (CACSD). As the chair of the district art department, I worked out extensive budgets with my department, considered state policies on education, and spoke for my team to higher-ups.
At CACSD I was on the executive board of our NYSUT local for over ten years. I worked on Vote Cope electoral efforts. As an elected building representative, I proudly helped save members’ positions and relationships with administrators.
Two other hats I’ve worn include Cairo Library board member for five years, with all the policies and budget involvements. And I served two years as chair of the Cairo Democratic Committee.
Recently I’ve been endorsed by the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter! I also have the Working Families Party (WFP), NY Progressive Action Network (NYPAN), and MTP (Mountaintop Progressives) endorsements.
Please remember: Vote in the primary, it’s your voice!
