Understanding Historic Documents

Transcription Workshop at DCHA March 11

Posted

Those who have struggled to read their ancestors’ letters and diaries are invited to come to a Delaware County Historical Association (DCHA) transcription workshop Saturday, March 11 at 2 p.m. to learn valuable tips and tricks to read and understand old-fashioned handwriting.

The museum’s resident history educator will offer a presentation on transcribing documents.

Attending “students” will be challenged to put their skills to the test by reading several historic letters from the museum’s collections.

Attendees are also encouraged to bring any materials they have, whether it be an old family diary, journal or letter. The group will work together to deciphering the handwriting.

This workshop is free and open to the public. RSVPs are encouraged but not required. Call DCHA at 607-746-3849 or email dcha@delhi.net.

This workshop will be held at DCHA, 46549 NY-10, Delhi, across from Curtis Lumber.

In case of inclement weather, the workshop will be held Saturday, March 18 at 2 p.m.
