NEW YORK -- After a couple of quiet days, Otsego County and Delaware County both reported new cases of the novel coronavirus Wednesday.
Otsego County announced Wednesday it has two new confirmed cases of COVID-19.
That brings the county's total of confirmed cases to 57. Three people are still hospitalized and four have died.
In Delaware County, three more local positive case was reported after two days of zero new cases. Two cases, according to county health officials, were found to belong to other counties. The county's press release says the total number of positive cases reported is 65, with 10 transferred out.
Two people are hospitalized, four have died, and 71 are in mandatory quarantine.
Meanwhile, in his daily press briefing, Governor Andrew Cuomo said his meeting with the president on Tuesday was “productive.”
The governor said he's heard from local officials throughout the state who are under political pressure to get everyone back to work.
“Frankly, this is no time to act stupidly,” he said. “This is not going to be over anytime soon. More people will die if we are not smart.”
He showed a graph of the first, second, and third wave of the 1918 flu pandemic. The second wave was far worse than the first.
Cuomo addressed local officials directly. “I have no problem with them blaming me,” he said. “Tell them 'It's the governor.' It is the governor.”
He said the president agreed to help new York double its testing capacity by handling the supply chain issues. Cuomo said the president also agreed to waive the state's matching obligation for FEMA expenses, a number Cuomo said could have been “in the millions.”
In addition, he announced that former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, in partnership with Johns Hopkins Medical Center, has offered to develop a trace, test, and isolate program in coordination with New Jersey and Connecticut to help move the states toward a safe reopening.
