Third Delaware County Virus Death Reported

DELHI – A third local person has reportedly died due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Delaware County Public Health Services said Friday that a local person who has been hospitalized with the virus died on Thursday night. No further information on their name or location will be released, according to the county.

The number of people confirmed with the virus in the county inched up slightly – a total of 45 cases reported by the state, with five proving to not be in the county and their case reports transferred to other locations. County health officials continue to report the full total, including those five, in their daily updates.

Five people are still hospitalized, 25 are isolating at home, and seven have fully recovered. Testing has been done on 320 people and 34 test results are still pending, while 33 people are in mandatory quarantine.

Otsego County reported its second virus-related death Wednesday. The total number of cases there stands at 42, which six people hospitalized and 16 fully recovered. In Otsego County, 71 people are in mandatory quarantine.

Otsego County, in its press release, acknowledged that this is a holiday weekend for many people, and reminded them that now is not the time to become lax about social distancing.

You should not be gathering with anyone who does not live in your home,” the health department release said.
