Sandra A. Hogge, 77, Walton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at Delhi Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born May 22, 1942 in Southampton, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Isabelle (Hubbard) Downs.
Sandra relocated to Walton from Hampton Bays over 40 years ago. She was very active with Boy and Girl Scouts in Hampton Bays, serving as a leader for both organizations. Sandra taught Sunday school and youth groups in Hampton Bays and Walton. She was active with the United Methodist Church in Hampton Bays and Walton and was a co-leader of the Country Cousins 4-H Club. Sandra was a kind, loving, giving person. She loved teaching and caring for children and was a foster mother to over 20 children. She enjoyed her pets, shopping, sewing, reading and scrapbooking. Sandra’s true passion was her beloved family and friends. Sandra will be truly missed.
Survivors include her children Patricia Bowker (Kristopher) of Walton, William Blydenburgh (Kristen) of Anchorage, Alaska, Christine Grunewald (Peter) of Manchester, N.H., Jeffrey Hogge of East Quogue, and Jeanne Hogge-Zarro of East Quogue; grandchildren Trista, Taylor, Dawson, Kimber, Nicole, Michael, Beth, Jeffrey, Jeremy, Jessie, Jordan and Carter; great-grandchildren Lydia, Dana, Jax, Jayce, Madison, Malcom, Sawyer and Paxson; special niece Kimberly Lein-Mujsce; step-brother Herbert Rampe and special friends Pat and Nancy DiNardo and Kelli Zimmerman. Sandra is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her husbands William Blydenburgh and Horace S. Hogge; son Eric Blydenburgh; brother Richard “Buzzy” Downs (Ann Marie); sister Barbara Lein (Al); stepson Michael Hogge, stepbrother Loudon Rampe and stepmother Betty Downs.
A service to celebrate Sandra’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 29, at 1 p.m. at New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Avenue, Walton, with Pastor Larry Light officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
