Roy Louis Ruske Jr., 86, of Greece passed away on Friday, Dec. 25, 2020 at Unity Hospital of Rochester, due to complications of COVID-19.

Roy was born on Oct. 30, 1934, the son of Roy L. and Lucille A. (Batzing) Ruske in Rochester. He was a 1952 graduate of Pittsford-Sutherland High School. He served in the U.S. Army 10th Infantry Division (Mountain) in West Germany 1954-1956. In 1959 he graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical School in Daytona Beach, Fla. He was united in marriage to Anne E. Klukkert on April 16, 1960 at the First Presbyterian Church in Delhi. Roy worked for over 30 years as a railroad engineer in both Rochester and Selkirk. He retired from CSX in 1999.

In his younger years Roy enjoyed sailing and hunting. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and extended family. He was always ready to help out friends, family, and neighbors. Roy enjoyed hanging out by the pool drinking a Manhattan or vodka martini and cooking a steak on the grill. He and Anne were very active in the in the Delmar Presbyterian Church.

Roy is survived by his brother Donald G. Lewis (Millie) of Irondequoit, his daughter Susan Burns of Greece, his son Ted (Ann) Ruske of Robins, Iowa, and three grandchildren: Kellie (Chris) Engle, Biloxi, Miss., Taylor Burns (Adam Castles), Hartford, Conn., Sydney Ruske of Robins, Iowa, sister-in-law Jane Klukkert O'Dell of DeLancey, along with nieces and nephews Lois and Vicky Klukkert, Randy (Laurie) and Art Allen, and Kyle Baysinger (Brooke), Deborah Pope (Michael Collins), Stephen Pope Jr., Jonathan Pope (Michelle), Brian Pope, Daniel Pope, Tamara Pope, as well as lifelong family friend Elaine Tantalo.  

He was preceded in death by his wife Anne, his parents, his sisters Sandy Baysinger (Rob), and Nancy Maibaum Pope (Stephen).

There will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of Greater Rochester in his name.
