Rosie's Rounds

It’s been a little quiet on the basketball front this week. However, there were two standout tournament for wrestling - one being in Deposit and the other, in Oneonta.
I turned out Monday to watch a Charlotte Valley girls basketball game in fear of missing veteran coach Ray Preston’s 700th win. However, they fell to Cherry Valley-Springfield and missed the mark. The Wildcats were set to play Jefferson on Tuesday (press day) and the 700th win looked promising since they have defeated them in the past. However, the game was canceled since Charlotte Valley was evacuated do to a suspected gas leak.
According to Preston, the next game will be away in Afton on Jan. 13 unless there is a make-up date before then.
The long-time coach is second all-time among girls basketball coaches at NYSPHSAA schools - Gina Mahar at Irvington earned more than 700 wins last season, while Jane Morris at Cardinal Spellman in the CHSAA recorded her 700th win in 2014.
I would like to encourage coaches to continue sending me results - this year has been a great improvement from last season - particularly in regards to wrestling coaches.
