Ronald “Ronnie” Platt, 80, of Unadilla passed away Oct. 1, 2020, at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

He was a graduate of the Oneonta School, Class of 1958. Following graduation he went to work for Scintilla in Sidney for 19 ½ years. Then, Ronnie worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural carrier for 30 years.

It was while he was working at Scintilla that he met his future wife, Faye. They married on Jan. 27, 1962 and were married for 57 years when Faye predeceased him in 2019.

They lived a very short time in Sidney before buying a house and moving to Unadilla.

He definitely earned his ‘jack of all trades’ title because all of the remodeling done in or around the home. 

Ronnie liked to talk with everyone he met. He could walk into a room and make friends easily. He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends and loved country music. Ronnie liked working with his hands and being outside; for many years he cut his own firewood. He also enjoyed feeding the birds, especially the crows which drove his wife nuts. 

He was a gentle, loving, marvelous husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Ronnie is survived by his daughter Michele Myers-Platt, Unadilla, granddaughter Jessica Winans, Unadilla, grandson Nathan Winans, Mt. Upton, and

great-grandson Silas Rowe, Unadilla; two sisters, Catherine Wellman, Rochester and Vivian Spezio, Oneonta; three sisters-in-law, Wendy Platt, Oneonta, Carol Thurston, Oxford, Linda Crumley, Florida; four brothers-in-law, Calvin Thurston, Oxford, Steve Crumley, Florida, Joel Knapp, New Mexico, and Brian Knapp, New Mexico, many nieces and nephews and great- and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his parents, Eva and Clifford Platt and brothers Charles, Eugene, Gerald and Warren Platt, and sisters-in-law Eva, Barbara and Sandy Platt, Ruthann Knapp and Gail Knapp and brothers-in-law Gerard Wellman, Pete Spezio and John Knapp and nephews David Wellman, David Platt and Billy Platt and niece, Carla Thurston.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 16, in Sand Hill Cemetery, Wells Bridge.
