Richard Sprague

Richard H. Sprague, 90, of Holiday Brook, Downsville, passed away March 23, 2020, at the Roscoe Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, Roscoe.

He was born on April 20, 1929, to Homer and Learia (Duntz) Sprague in Shavertown.  

On Feb. 1, 1953, Richard married Dora Jacobson of Pepacton. Richard had worked as an auto mechanic for many years for Fred Miller of Downsville, Rebhein Motor of Grand Gorge, and Williams Motors in Walton; he also worked at Ed Shields & Son Plumbing and Heating and Amato Plumbing and Heating in Downsville.  For ten years, he had worked for SUNY Delhi as a cleaner and carpenter, retiring in 1995.

Richard liked to hunt and build things; he was always a hard worker and he was a kind-hearted, respectful man. He especially loved dogs.

Survivors include his loving wife, Dora Jacobson Sprague, at home; one daughter, Debra Beers of Oneonta; his grandsons Waylon and Dan Beers, both of Sherburne; one sister-in-law, Jean Beers of Deposit; brother-in-laws Robert Jacobson of Andes and Commodore Jacobson of Liberty, S.C.; and a niece, Lorraine Vausse of Andes.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth Sprague, Gleason Sprague, and Raymond Sprague; two sisters, Mabel Sprague and Madeline Vausse; and a nephew, Russell Vausse.

Graveside services and burial will be in the Andes Cemetery, Andes, in the Spring.
