Outdoor square dance Oct. 8

Posted

Catskills Folk Connection’s regular season of old-time Catskills square dances will come to an end Saturday, Oct. 8 from 3 - 6 p.m. The dance, free of charge, will take place on the lawn in front of the Inn at Kirkside, 53865 State Route 30 (Main Street) Roxbury.

Tremperskill Boys and Friends will play old tunes and call traditional squares for dancers old and new. Beginners are welcome and all dances will be taught. Masks are optional.

Water and refreshments will be provided including “Peg’s Chili Cook-Off” from Peg Ellsworth of the Inn at Kirkside development project.

In case of rain, the dance will be moved to the Hilt & Stella Kelly Hall at the Roxbury Arts Group, 5025 Vega Mountain Road, Roxbury. If it is not raining, but conditions are slippery, the program will change to a concert. Bring your lawn chairs.

Performers include John Jacobson fiddle and calling, Earl Pardini fiddle and calling, Dane Scudder fiddle and banjo, Ira McIntosh guitar, and Ginny Scheer, flute. The event is offered in anticipation of Roxbury Arts Group’s 29th annual Fiddlers! event the next day. Make it a weekend of traditional music and dance.

Tickets For Fiddlers 29! are available at roxburyartsgroup.org.
