NYS Re-Opening Enrollment In Health Plan

Offering Coverage To Uninsured During Public Health Crisis

ALBANY -- New York, along with eight other states, is extending the signup period for health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The NYS Health Department site indicates enrollment is open until April 15th.

The plan is, generally, closed after the fall until the following year. But New York, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada and Rhode Island are reopening the exchanges, and California, which was still open, is maintaining its open applications. The goal is to encourage people who might put off seeking medical treatment to get the care they need, reducing their risk from the coronavirus.

The New York state site is experiencing high traffic, so it may take several tries to successfully apply, but the site is functioning and applications are online at www.nystateofhealth.ny.gov
