Michael D. Moore, 55, of Walton passed away suddenly on Monday, April 5, 2021.

Born on March 11, 1966 in Oneonta, he is the son of Richard J. Moore and the late Margaret (Sampson) Moore.

He was a 1985 graduate of Walton Central School. He earned a degree in culinary arts from SUNY Delhi, a BS in psychology from SUNY Plattsburg, and a Masters degree in school psychology from the College of St. Rose. He was passionate about his work as a school psychologist, CSE chairperson, and most recently, a substitute teacher in Downsville. He genuinely cared about the students in his care.

Michael was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an excellent chef, self-taught auto mechanic, and an all-around Mr. Fix It. He loved spending time with his dear friend, Doris Armstrong of Downsville and cherished the time spent with his sister Kathleen and other residents of the ARC Townsend Street IRA.

Michael was a kind and sensitive person who battled depression most of his life.  Despite his own struggles, he was always looking for ways to help his many friends and neighbors.

Survivors include his father, Richard J. Moore; his sisters Kathleen Moore, Margot Cairnes (Michael), Alison Moore and Susan Moore; niece and nephews, Margaret Cairnes, Connor Cairnes, Killian Cairnes and Liam Cairnes; and many cousins.

Memorial donations in Michael’s memory may be made to The ARC of Delaware County, 34570 NY-10, Walton, NY 13856.

A graveside service was held on Monday, April 12, at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, in Walton with Father Golding, officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
