Matthew Schreier

Matthew “Matt” Paul Schreier was a lover, leader, caregiver, caretaker, veteran, son, father, brother and friend.

On July 11, 2021, at 5:10 p.m. his life was cut short by injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident near his home in Winterhaven, Fla. He loved adventure and the outdoors, spending most of his time boating on the Chain of Lakes or at a bonfire with a beer and the dog. He was very involved in the community as a real estate broker and property manager, an avid tennis player, a formidable pool player, and a favorite at local hangouts.

Matt was born and raised in Walton, and entered the army straight out of high school, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He went on to get his bachelor’s degree at Embry-Riddle Aeronautic University in Daytona Beach. Moving to Miami for work, that is where he met and married is wife Lori. They went on to have their only child Shannon, moving to Polk County on the first day of the new millennia. There, the three thrived as an incredibly close family unit.

He is survived by his daughter Shannon Schreier and his sisters Lynda Hitt, Nancy Pierce, and Carol Decker. He is also leaving behind his significant other Audrey Dance and his beloved lab Kobe. In heaven, he is joining his parents Paul and Marjorie Schreier and his wife Lori Schreier.

Matt was an organ donor who has generously affected the lives of three compatible recipients. He touched and inspired everyone he met and will be greatly missed.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Aug. 7 at Christ Church, 41 Gardiner Place, Walton, at 1 p.m. Following the service family and friends will gather at 4674 Pines Brook Road, Walton (the Decker residence) for food, remembrance and campfire. Bring your chair, beverage of choice and your stories to share as we honor Matthew Paul Schreier.
