Market Music: Don Gilkinson, Aug. 26

Posted

CCE sponsored Walton Farmers’ Market will host guitarist/singer Don Gilkinson on Friday Aug. 26 from noon to 2 p.m. as part of the Grant Rogers’ Project series featuring traditional music at the market.

Gilkerson has 50 years of experience working with several country, bluegrass and square dance bands as well as doing solo gigs. His repertoire is rooted in traditional country seasoned with blues, early rock n’ roll, bluegrass and just a hint of jazz/swing. He is self-taught, but recently pursued further music studies at Berkeley School of Music and thereby expanded his guitar-performing skills. To accompany his singing, he’ll use a combination of flat-picking and finger-picking on guitar. He invites his audience to dance, sing along, or simply listen, feeling it’s all about the music.

This music series has one remaining performance, on Sept. 2, featuring the Deposit area duo Bea Summers and Barb Acker, although the Walton Farmers’ Market will continue to be offered Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through September. The music feature of the market is made possible with a tourism grant from the Delaware County and the Walton Chamber of Commerce as well as several anonymous donors.
